This pair of Victorian decorative vases belongs to the Neoclassical style, shaped as club-form stoneware vessels in deep blue jasperware with contrasting white sprigged bas-relief decoration. Each piece features a continuous acanthus leaf border around the rim, a laurel band encircling the collar, and white classical figures depicting Psyche and Cupid on the body against the blue ground. The smooth matte finish shows moulded white relief details applied cleanly to the blue surfaces, with impressed marks visible on the unglazed bases. Standing 20 cm high by 7 cm wide and 7 cm deep, the pair fits neatly on a mantelpiece as decorative garnitures in a traditional or period interior.

Jasperware is a dense, un-glazed stoneware developed by Josiah Wedgwood in the 1770s. It features a matte biscuit finish and is decorated with contrasting white cameo bas-relief motifs, most notably inspired by classical Greek and Roman imagery.

Jasperware is created from coloured stoneware clay bodies, stained using metallic oxides such as cobalt for blue shades. The white decorative reliefs are molded separately and manually applied to the vessel body in a process known as sprigging before final firing.

Authentic 19th-century pieces usually feature an impressed WEDGWOOD makers mark on the base, along with single-letter or three-letter date codes depending on the exact decade. Genuine sprigged reliefs showcase sharp detail, smooth edges, and no visible excess glue or uneven gaps.

A pair of classical jasperware vases works well displayed symmetrically on a fireplace mantelpiece or styled atop a console table flanking a central mirror. Their distinct matte finish and blue palette complement modern neutral interiors, traditional mahogany furniture, and dark painted walls.

Dust regularly with a dry, soft-bristled brush to remove accumulation within the relief details. For stubborn dirt, wash gently with warm water and mild detergent using a soft brush, ensuring the piece is dried completely; avoid harsh chemical cleaners and abrasive cloths.
