Regency Burr Oak Miniature Chest of Drawers

19th century
Description

A Delightful Regency Period Burr Oak Miniature Chest Having

Superbly Figured Top Above Two Short & Three Long Drawers With

Original Brass Knobs Flanked By Elegant Fluted Stiles Raised On

Original Brass Ball Feet

Often much debate is had as to whether miniature furniture was made

as an apprentice piece, which is when a craftsmen who is looking for a

job at a workshop would create something to showcase their talents.

Or whether it was made as a travelling salesmans sample piece, which

is when a few articles were made as scale models in advance of a road

trip during which the salesman would travel the country showing

prospective clients the kind of items they could produce back

at the workshop and take orders from.

This particular miniature chest of drawers is probably the latter

and would have been made as a sample piece. The construction

is exquisite and the attention to tiny detail phenomenal in all honesty.

A really quite charming piece of antique miniature furniture which is in

good condition and ready to be placed into the home immediately.

It is also super quality and unusual being constructed from burr oak

which has taken on an exceptional rich colour and patina

over the years of its life.

The work that would have gone into constructing this with all of its

fine details would actually have been more of a challenge and taken a

more skilled craftsmen than its full size counterparts would have done.

Circa 1830.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Regency miniature chest of drawers is a small-scale cabinet created during the early 19th century, often made as a cabinetmakers sample, apprentice piece, or high-status desktop storage box.

These pieces were crafted using fine hardwoods such as burr oak, mahogany, or walnut, frequently accented with decorative ebony or boxwood inlays, hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, and brass knob handles.

Authentic Regency pieces exhibit hand-cut joinery, age-appropriate wood shrinkage around drawer bottoms, authentic patination on the timber, and historical brassware with faint oxidisation.

Position the piece atop a sideboard, office desk, or console table to serve as a functional accent for storing small keepsakes, desk accessories, or jewellery.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a clear beeswax polish twice a year, keeping the wood away from direct heat sources and high humidity to preserve the veneer.
