Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

Bedside chests and cabinets evolved during the 18th and 19th centuries as bedrooms became more private and functional spaces, with mahogany being the favoured timber for high-end cabinetry due to its durability and rich grain.

Authentic period pieces are typically constructed from solid mahogany or mahogany veneers over secondary hardwoods, featuring traditional joinery such as hand-cut dovetails on the drawers and turned wooden knobs.

Authentication involves examining the drawer construction for hand-cut dovetails, checking for natural ageing and patina on the timber, and looking for subtle irregularities consistent with handmade craftsmanship rather than modern machine production.

These pieces add warmth and historical contrast to modern schemes; pair them with minimalist lighting and neutral walls to let the rich grain of the wood stand out as a focal point.

Maintain the timber by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent cracking, dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth, and occasionally applying a quality beeswax to nourish the finish.
