A fusee wall clock is a mechanical timepiece featuring a conical pulley (fusee) connected to a cord or chain, designed to equalise the declining pull of the mainspring as it unwinds, ensuring consistent timekeeping accuracy.

These clocks typically feature solid timber cases crafted from mahogany, oak, or rosewood, housing white painted iron or wooden dials with brass bezels, convex glass covers, and intricate brass mechanical movements.

Authenticity is determined by examining the fusee movement, hand-engraved maker signatures on the dial or backplate, the quality of timber grain, aged patina on the dial, and original pendulum locking mechanisms.

Mounting the timepiece as a striking focal point on a plain, neutral wall allows its traditional timber tones and classic Roman numerals to provide a sophisticated contrast in contemporary spaces.

Keep the clock away from direct sunlight, moisture, and extreme temperature fluctuations, and have the mechanical movement professionally cleaned and oiled every three to five years.
