A very large pair of left and right handed Japanese Arita porcelain vases which stand 30�� (76cm.) tall without the stands. The polychrome enamels are very vibrant and in excellent condition. Both are decorated with panels of Samurai warriors in full dress. Above are panels of birds in flight surrounded by trees and flowers, and both with large dragons entwining the whole vases from head to foot. Both vases are signed and come with 2 later stands (see photos below).To the best of our research the marks translate as follows- Made in Arita, the Hizen region (Southern island of Japan) With a merchants mark of ''yamaguchi zou'' or made by Tashiro Monzaemon who was established from the Edo period of mid 1800''s to the Meiji period until around 1900.
