Georgian/regency Cut Glass Bonbonnière or Small Urn

19th century
Description

This is a Georgian/Regency, cut glass bonbonnière and cover dating from the beginning of the 19th century, c1810.

The bonbonnière is in excellent condition for its age. It shows age related wear and tear consistent with some 200 years of use.

The bonbonnière is approximately cylinder-shaped and measures 8.5 cm (3.4 inches) in diameter at its widest point. The bowl is tooth-cut to the rim, under which sits a band of diamond cutting. The bowl then steps inward and flares back out again where two prism cuts sit above a wide band of diamond cutting above another prism cut and a basal band of panel cuts. The bowl sits on a capstan stem with a medial annular knop and a slightly conical foot which is radially cut underneath to the edge. There is a polished out pontil mark to the underside of the foot. The bonbonnière is 15 cm (6 inches) in height without the cover and 19 cm (7.6 inches) in height with the cover on.

The cover is cut in the same form as the bowl and we believe it to be the original. It is of the same colour and metal as the bonbonnière and is a good fit. It is cut with the same diamond and prism cutting and has a radially-cut mushroom finial.

There are no significant chips, cracks, significant scratches or any other evidence of restoration. An impressive piece of cut glass of some rarity due to its almost pristine condition.

Anglo Irish lead glass weighing in at 715 g. (~ 1 lb 9 oz).

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
