Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This pair of English ships decanters dates from 1920 in the Art Deco style, formed from dark green glass with a polished finish. Each vessel displays a broad conical base with vertical facet cut panels, rising to a slender ringed neck and topped with a radial cut stopper. The pieces show fluted finials on the stoppers, reflective highlights on the glass facets, and stepped profile mouldings along the necks. Measuring 25.4 cm high and 17.8 cm wide, these decorative items suit placement on a sideboard top in a gentleman's library or dining room to hold beverages. Such glassware adds a functional and traditional decorative touch to surface displays in a home setting. The dense colour and geometric cuts catch the ambient light, providing an appealing visual element for interior presentation. These decanters function effectively as standalone display items or for serving drinks during gatherings when placed within easy reach.

FAQs

A ships decanter is defined by its wide, flat base tapering sharply to a narrow neck. Originally created in the late eighteenth century for maritime use, this shape provided a low centre of gravity to prevent tipping on rolling sea vessels.

Decanters from this period were crafted from hand-blown glass coloured with metal oxides, such as iron or chromium for green hues. Features included wheel-cut facets, neck rings for improved grip, and hand-ground stoppers fitted to each vessel.

Authentic pieces display hand-cut precision with subtle irregularities, ground glass stoppers numbered to match the specific neck socket, and visible wear or polishing marks on the base consistent with age.

Position glass decanters on a wooden sideboard, brass drinks trolley, or open shelving to catch natural light. Pairing colored glass with neutral background surfaces highlights the silhouette and material depth.

Wash decanters by hand using lukewarm water and mild detergent, avoiding high temperatures that cause thermal shock. To remove interior residue, swirl uncooked rice or lead shot with warm water, and ensure complete drying to prevent clouding.
