Bacchantes Clock after Francois Rémond
A fine late 19th century, French, Louis XVI style ormolu & white marble mantel clock after Francois Rémond . The two bacchantes, followers of Dionysus, the God of wine and intoxication, are depicted revelling in their drunkenness. The grapes held aloft, a wine ewer, drinking cup and cymbals in their hands. The ''Vincenti & Cie'' eight day twin train movement rack striking the hour & half hour on a bell, numbered 5426 with the original pendulum. Retaining the lovely original mercury gilding.
