This is a pair of mouth-blown, Victorian, engraved, ovoid bowl rummer or ale glasses with square feet dating from some time in the second half of the 19th century.
The glasses are in excellent condition. They show light age related wear and tear consistent with years of age and use. They have polished out pontil marks on the underside of the feet.
The glasses measure 9.7 cm (3.9 inches) in diameter across the bowl rims. The bowls are engraved with a strand of hop flowers on one side and barley ears to verso . The bowls sit on annular knops and terraced square feet that measure 5.8 cm (2.3 inches) square. The glasses are 14.7 cm (5.9 inches) in height. There are the normal tiny flea bite chips out of the edges and corners of the square feet but nothing of real significance. There are no other chips, cracks, significant scratches or any evidence of restoration.
Lead glass, each rummer weighs 350 g. (~ 12 oz.).
Provenance: The Tanyards Collection, East Sussex.
