The lamps have particularly decorative pierced coronet-form drip pans above tall barley-twist columns, with knopped stems terminating in broad stepped circular bases raised on cast lion-paw feet. Their height and strong architectural form give them considerable presence, making them particularly effective as a pair of statement lamps in both period and contemporary interiors. The candlesticks have been sympathetically converted for use as table lamps and are fitted with bayonet bulb holders. The pair varies slightly in the height of the original coronets, although the bulb fittings have been positioned so that the overall lamp heights correspond. A handsome and unusual pair of substantial 19th-century brass lamps with excellent decorative character.

CONDITION
The lamps are in good, solid condition with an attractive aged brass surface and patina. There are marks, knocks, scratches, tarnishing and areas of wear commensurate with age and use. The original candlesticks vary slightly in height and there are minor irregularities consistent with their age and ecclesiastical use. The lamps have later electrical fittings and the wiring appears relatively recent. The lamps have not been electrically tested by us and we recommend that all electrical fittings are checked by a suitably qualified electrician before use. Overall, they present extremely well and make a particularly impressive and decorative pair of large Gothic Revival table lamps.
