This tall English Edwardian table lamp dates to around 1910 and is made from heavy brass with a warm gold finish. The design incorporates a reeded and ribbed column stem, an urn-shaped upper section, and a circular scalloped jelly mould style base, all complemented by a newly rewired electrical fitting at the top. The lamp measures 52 cm in height, 14 cm in width, and 14 cm in depth. Suitable for placement on a sideboard top in a gentleman's library or a living room study, the piece provides functional lighting while introducing period character. The construction is solid and tidy, maintaining a clean polished metal surface from top to bottom.

FAQs

Edwardian brass table lamps typically feature classical revival motifs, such as reeded columns, urn shapes, and fluted detailing, reflecting a turn-of-the-twentieth-century preference for lighter neoclassicism compared to heavier Victorian designs.

These lamps were predominantly cast or spun from solid brass, featuring weighted circular or square bases for stability and hollow central stems designed to conceal internal gas pipes or early electrical wiring.

Authentic pieces display natural surface patination, cast join lines, period thread pitch on metal components, and historical bayonet fitting assemblies alongside neoclassical detailing like fluting and gadrooning.

Pair the warm metal finish with a contemporary neutral linen shade on a minimalist sideboard or desk to create a balanced contrast between historical craft and modern design.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth, avoid abrasive chemical polishes that strip historical patination, and ensure electrical wiring is inspected periodically by a qualified electrician.
