This is an attractive Queen Anne burr walnut linen press cupboard, early 18th century and later, adapted from an escritoire. The moulded cornice with blind cushion frieze above a pair of doors enclosing three slides, above two short and two long drawers, raised on bun feet at the front and bracket feet at the back. Constructed in oak.There are marks, knocks and scratches commensurate with age and use, including various pieces of moulding that have been detached and reaffixed or replaced. There is some lifting and warping to localised areas of veneer but this appears largely stabilised. This piece has been adapted from an escritoire by the removal of the fitted interior and insertion of the three slides. The drawer handles and rear feet are replacements. The front feet have some historic woodworm but they appear to retain structural integrity. The drawers run smoothly and the piece is solid and stable.
