This Georgian Regency sterling silver decanter label is designed for gin and dates from 1815, made in London by William Bateman I. The silver piece has a polished metallic finish and a cool greyish tone, taking a square tablet form with a raised reeded border running along its outer edges. The front surface shows an engraved capital letter G detailed with a stippled pricked pattern, and two top corner loops suspend a fine silver link chain. The solid metal object measures 2.3 cm high, 2.5 cm wide and 1 cm deep. In a contemporary home, this small collectible accessory is placed around the neck of a decanter on a sideboard top, drinks tray or home bar setup to identify the contents during entertaining. The hallmarked silver item is handled directly when serving spirits or organising glassware displays.

Introduced in the eighteenth century, silver decanter labelsalso known as bottle ticketswere designed to hang around clear glass decanters to identify spirits, wines, and cordials prior to modern bottle labelling.

Regency decanter labels were typically crafted from sterling silver or silver plate, featuring hand-engraved lettering, die-stamped or reeded borders, and silver chain link suspensions.

Authentic Georgian pieces generally feature British silver hallmarks, including the makers mark, purity mark, town mark, and date letter, typically stamped on the reverse side or border edge.

Silver bottle tickets can be displayed on glass decanters positioned on a drinks tray, mounted in framed collections, or arranged on a bar cart to add historical detail.

Gently polish silver labels using a soft microfibre cloth and specialized silver foam, avoiding harsh chemicals or submersion that could damage delicate link chains.
