This Regency sterling silver decanter label takes a rectangular form with clipped corners and a multi-line reeded border following the perimeter. The front face shows engraved pricked capital letters spelling the word Port across the centre. Two suspension loops at the top hold a linked belcher chain. The silver possesses a bright polished finish with faint surface scratches from handling, while the reverse side and interior settings remain clean. The piece measures 4.3 cm wide by 2.4 cm high. In a modern home, this wine label serves as a functional bar accessory or collector item. Placed around the neck of a decanter on a sideboard top or drinks trolley, it identifies the contents for guests during dining or entertaining. The compact item suits traditional interiors, gentleman's library displays, or contemporary drinks stations where heritage silver tableware is collected and used.

Decanter labels, historically referred to as wine tickets, originated in the 18th century to identify liquids stored inside opaque or decorative glass decanters on formal dining tables.

Antique decanter labels were primarily crafted from sterling silver, Sheffield plate, or mother-of-pearl, and were fitted with fine metal suspension chains.

Authentic Georgian silver labels display official British hallmarks, such as the makers mark, lion passant, monarchs head duty mark, and date letter, stamped on either the front or reverse surface.

Drape the silver label around the neck of a glass or crystal decanter displayed on a bar cart, drinks tray, or sideboard to add historic character to modern table settings.

Gently wipe the surface using a soft cotton cloth and specialized silver polish, avoiding harsh chemical dips or abrasive cloths that could wear away delicate engraving.
