Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century English country kitchen dresser comes in painted pine with a distressed sage green finish. The upper section contains two glazed doors enclosing internal shelving, flanked by carved vertical pilasters, while the base section holds four small drawers above two lower panelled cupboard doors fitted with small brass turned knobs. The timber construction shows visible surface wear, chips, and fading to the painted surfaces that reveal the lighter wood beneath along the edges and mouldings. Standing 203 cm high, 151 cm wide, and 51 cm deep, the piece provides substantial storage capacity. Practical placement includes a country kitchen, pantry, or dining room for organizing and displaying tableware, glassware, and everyday pantry essentials. The dual-compartment layout allows for both concealed storage in the lower cupboards and display storage behind the glass upper doors, making it suitable for functional utility and decorative presentation in traditional or rustic domestic spaces.

FAQs

Originating in rural Britain during the 18th and 19th centuries, West Country dressers were essential functional pieces in country kitchens, crafted by local woodworkers to store and display dinnerware and kitchen utensils.

These pieces were typically constructed from local softwoods such as pine or deal, using mortise-and-tenon joinery, hand-planed backboards, fitted glass panels, and painted or scumbled finishes to protect the timber.

Authentic period dressers display signs of age such as natural wear around handles, multiple layered historical paint finishes, hand-forged or early cast hardware, and hand-cut dovetail joints on drawers.

A painted dresser can serve as a focal piece in a contemporary kitchen or dining area, filled with modern ceramics, glassware, or books to create visual contrast against neutral walls.

Maintain historical painted furniture by dusting regularly with a dry, soft cloth, avoiding harsh liquid cleaners, keeping the item away from direct heat sources, and preserving existing paint flakes with clear wax.
