Description

A wonderful Art Deco figured walnut drinks cabinet, made in England and dating from the 1930’s.

This is of superb quality and has a very interesting bow fronted design, with a deep back gallery. The deep back gallery is designed to keep bottles in place, there is lots of storage space inside for glasses. It would also be useful as a bedside cabinet. The walnut grain patterns are gorgeous, and this has a beautiful colour tone.

We have had this stripped and re-polished to a very high standard, the condition is superb for its age.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Art Deco furniture is characterised by sleek geometric shapes, streamlined forms, and the use of luxurious materials such as figured veneers, exotic woods, and chrome accents, reflecting the modernity and optimism of the 1920s and 1930s.

Master craftsmen typically utilised solid secondary timbers such as mahogany or oak as a structural base, applying high-value decorative veneers like burr walnut, maple, or macassar ebony to the exterior surfaces.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-correct construction methods, such as hand-cut dovetail joints in drawers, traditional shellac or French polish finishes, and original hardware, alongside natural ageing patterns in the timber and veneer.

This piece works effectively as a focal point in a living room or entertaining space, complemented by minimalist contemporary furnishings, metallic lighting, and vintage glassware to highlight its architectural lines.

Maintain the finish by keeping the cabinet out of direct sunlight to prevent veneer fading, dusting regularly with a soft, dry cloth, and occasionally applying microcrystalline wax to nourish the wood without building up residue.
