Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This pair of Victorian terracotta vases by Bernhard Bloch dates from 1890 and is executed in a black finish. Each urn-shaped vessel stands on a circular turned base and displays a detailed basketweave texture across the body, complemented by raised relief moulding, tassel motifs, and seated cherub figures acting as handles on the shoulders. The rims are scalloped and textured, adding further ornamentation to the gothic design. Each vase measures 44 cm high, 22 cm wide, and 20 cm deep, making them suitable for display on a sideboard top in a living room, dining room, or hallway. They integrate well into traditional and period-inspired interiors as decorative accent pieces.

FAQs

Dust gently using a soft, dry camel-hair brush or microfibre cloth, avoiding water or chemical liquid cleaners which can strip cold-painted finishes or penetrate porous unglazed clay.

Dark ceramic urns serve effectively as sculptural accents on a sideboard, fireplace mantelpiece, or console table, providing strong contrast against light walls or natural timber surfaces.

Authentic examples usually feature impressed maker marks such as BB, shape reference numbers, or location stamps on the underside of the base, alongside crisp relief moulding.

These ceramic vessels were typically formed from moulded terracotta earthenware, fired at low temperatures, and finished with a dark pigment, slip, or cold-painted black glaze to imitate oxidized bronze or basaltware.

Victorian black terracotta, frequently produced in Central Europe during the late nineteenth century, features a dark-dyed or glazed earthenware body decorated with intricate moulded relief work, classical motifs, and figural details.
