Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE GEORGIAN ERA:
Arched fielded panel on the door: classic mid to late 18th-century cabinetmaking.
Rough-sawn backboards and top: typical period timber conversion before circular sawing.
Three fixed shaped shelves: original interior layout for showing small wares.
Dark oxidised colour and shrinkage gaps: natural ageing over two centuries.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Georgian oak corner cabinet is constructed from dark brown timber with a moulded cornice and a single door containing an arched panel. Visible hardware comprises exposed brass hinges, a brass keyhole escutcheon, and a small circular brass knob on the door frame, alongside surface wear and marks reflecting its age. The cabinet stands 94 cm high, 71 cm wide, and 37 cm deep. In a contemporary home, a piece of this style is suitable for wall mounting or placement on a surface in a living room, dining room, or hallway to provide functional storage while adding traditional English country house character.

FAQs

A Georgian oak corner cabinet is a wall-mounted or floor-standing storage cupboard produced in Britain during the reign of the Hanoverian monarchs between 1714 and 1830, designed specifically to fit into a ninety-degree wall corner.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid native hardwoods such as English oak or fruitwood, featuring hand-cut dovetail joints, pegged mortise and tenon joinery, arched panel doors, and hand-forged iron or brass hardware.

Authentic pieces display signs of historical craftsmanship including hand-planed timber backboards, irregular peg construction, original brass H-hinges or escutcheons, and natural surface patination accumulated through age and wax polishing.

A hanging corner cabinet can be positioned in a dining room, kitchen, or hallway to utilise under-frequented vertical space while adding historic architectural interest to contemporary neutral wall finishes.

Dust regularly with a dry lint-free cloth and apply a thin layer of natural beeswax polish annually following the wood grain, keeping the timber clear of direct heat sources and high humidity.
