Dutch Delftware refers to tin-glazed earthenware manufactured in the Netherlands, primarily in the city of Delft, from the 16th century onwards, peaking in quality and popularity during the 17th and 18th centuries as a European response to imported Chinese porcelain.

These pieces were crafted from a local clay body, thrown or molded, then coated in an opaque white tin glaze. Cobalt blue pigment was hand-painted directly onto the unfired glaze before the object was fired in a kiln to achieve its characteristic glossy finish.

Authentic pieces often exhibit minor glaze imperfections, slight crazing, and hand-painted brushwork with subtle variations. Many early pieces feature makers marks or factory ciphers on the base, though unmasked items are also common.

Such decorative objects add historical depth and artisanal texture to modern spaces. They can be displayed singly on a mantelpiece or grouped with complementary blue and white ceramics on a sideboard to create a focal point.

Faience is earthenware and can be porous if the glaze is compromised. Clean gently with a dry or barely damp microfiber cloth, avoid harsh chemical cleaners, and keep out of direct, prolonged sunlight to protect the glaze and pigment.
