This Art Deco mantel clock dates from 1930 and combines a geometric timekeeper with a cold-painted spelter figure of a kneeling lady. The composition uses black and white veined marble, white onyx, spelter, and metal, rendered in black, off-white, and dark bronze tones. The clock face is hexagonal, set within a stepped architectural case flanked by illuminated panels and stylised fan mouldings at the base. Beside the clock stands the dark bronze-finished female figure holding an alabaster-toned vessel on her shoulder, all mounted upon a rectangular multi-tiered marble base supported by small rounded feet. The entire assembly measures 41.5 cm high, 53 cm wide, and 15 cm deep. Positioned on a mantelpiece or a prominent sideboard in a living room or study, the piece provides both timekeeping and integrated illumination. The built-in lamps project light through the translucent onyx panels behind the hexagonal dial, highlighting the stepped geometric contours of the clock housing. The French eight-day striking movement drives the dial, while the contrasting textures of the polished veined marble, matte dark metal figure, and glowing stone elements create a balanced composition suited to period-inspired interiors.

Dust the marble and sculptural elements regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh liquid chemicals that can etch natural stone. Ensure any electrical lighting components are inspected by a qualified electrician prior to use.

Place the clock as a central focal point on a sleek sideboard, fireplace mantelpiece, or console table to showcase its sculptural silhouette and soft background lighting. Pair it with minimalist dark timber or metallic accents to complement its geometric lines without cluttering the surface.

Authentic pieces exhibit signature design motifs of the era, such as stepped geometric bases, stylised fan patterns, angular numerals, and classic 1930s typography. Additionally, genuine vintage examples show characteristic wear on the metal patina, period wiring or conversions, and natural veining within the stone.

Art Deco clocks commonly utilised multi-coloured variegated marble, onyx, frosted or pressed glass, and spelter or bronze for the sculptural figures. The clock movements were typically mechanical, often housed within geometric metal and glass surrounds.

Popularised during the 1920s and 1930s, Art Deco illuminated clocks combine functional timekeeping with sculptural figures and integrated ambient lighting. These pieces feature bold geometric silhouettes, contrasting marble or onyx bases, and stylised figures crafted from bronze or spelter.
