FAQs

A deuddarn is a traditional Welsh two-tier cupboard dating back to the 16th and 17th centuries, originally used in rural households for storing provisions, linens, and domestic valuables.

These pieces are predominantly constructed from solid native English and Welsh oak, featuring pegged mortise and tenon joints, hand-panelled doors, and frequently incorporating turned pendants or drops beneath the upper canopy.

Authenticity is determined by examining timber shrinkage, hand-cut peg joints, traditional tool marks, patination consistent with age, and period-appropriate hardware such as iron butterfly hinges or brass drop handles.

A deuddarn can serve as a focal storage piece in a dining room, kitchen, or living area, pairing well with neutral plastered walls and minimalist decor to highlight its rich timber texture.

Maintain stable indoor humidity levels away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight, and periodically nourish the timber with traditional beeswax to preserve the finish.
