Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The Dognose pattern, also known as the wavy end pattern, emerged in England during the late 17th century and remained popular through the reign of Queen Anne. Characterised by a rounded terminal with subtle side notches, it represented a transition from earlier spoon and fork designs toward modern table flatware.

Silver forks from around 1700 were individually hand-hammered from sterling silver ingots. They typically feature three tines and hand-engraved heraldic coats of arms or armorial crests on the handle terminals.

Authentic period examples display makers marks and hallmarks, such as the Britannia standard or lion passant, stamped near the neck or terminal. The presence of hand-hammered surface variation, three tines, and genuine period engraving further confirms authenticity.

Early silver flatware can be displayed flat in a glass shadow box or frame mounted on a neutral linen backdrop to highlight the engraved crests. Alternatively, place them atop a dining room sideboard inside a felt-lined wooden tray.

Clean silver flatware using a mild silver polish applied with a soft cotton cloth, taking care around engraved details. Avoid automated dishwashers and harsh abrasive chemicals, and store pieces in anti-tarnish cloth bags when not on display.
