Iznik pottery originates from the town of Iznik in western Anatolia, flourishing from the 15th to the 17th centuries and continuing in influence later, renowned for its vibrant colours and complex ceramic body.

Iznik vessels are traditionally constructed from a quartz-rich fritware body, coated with a white slip, hand-painted with mineral pigments under a transparent lead glaze, and fired in wood-burning kilns.

Authentic pieces typically display fine crazing in the glaze, mineral pigment bleeding, hand-thrown potting irregularities, and stylistic motifs consistent with period production workshops.

Placing the vessel as a solitary focal point on a mantelpiece or bookshelf allows the historical patterns and craftsmanship to contrast cleanly with modern minimalist decor.

Keep the vessel away from direct sunlight, handle with clean hands to avoid skin oils penetrating historical crazing, and dust gently with a soft, dry brush without using liquids.
