An excellent Devonshire longcase clock by this well known and prolific clockmaker from the city of Exeter (Exon).
Featuring an eight day duration movement and striking the hours on a bell. The full brass dial has a silvered brass engraved centre with foliage, scrolls, seconds and date. Also with matching blued steel hands. The corners are decorated with brass spandrels. The arch displaying a silver brass cartouche with an engraved bird and Tempus Fugit (Time Flies). The makers name Thomas Upjohn, Exon (Exeter) is engraved to the chapter ring.
The beautifully proportioned flame mahogany veneered case has a long trunk door, reeded quarter pillars and capitals to each side and a plain base with a raised moulding. Standing on a shaped plinth.
The hood features a broken arched top with a front elevation sound fret, viewing windows to the side and reeded pillars finished with brass Doris capitals. The dial can be accessed via a glazed locked door
NOTE: This cloc...k has just arrived and will require some sympathetic restoration before delivery. The movement will require a service and overhaul and the dial could have its silvering freshened up if desired. The cabinetwork will also require some minimal restoration.
