Victorian cut glass refers to glassware produced during the reign of Queen Victoria (18371901), characterised by deep brilliant-cut geometric and floral motifs made possible by technological advances and the repeal of the British glass tax in 1845.

These items were typically crafted from lead crystal or flint glass, shaped by mouth-blowing into moulds or free-blowing, followed by hand-cutting and polishing on stone wheels to achieve intricate facets.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the weight, greyish refractive tone of the lead crystal, minor hand-finishing imperfections such as tool marks, and the presence of bottom wear or a polished pontil mark on the base.

Antique tumblers can be incorporated into contemporary settings by using them as functional barware on a drinks trolley, as small desk organisers for pens, or as bud vases for single stems.

Antique crystal should always be washed by hand in warm water using a mild detergent, avoiding sudden temperature changes and the dishwasher to prevent thermal shock and clouding.
