Grape scissors were specialised dining implements designed during the 19th century to neatly sever individual stems of fruit from a larger bunch at the dinner table without bruising the fruit.

These instruments were typically crafted from sterling silver or silver plate, often featuring detailed hand-engravings, chased ornamentation, and sometimes cast decorative motifs along the handles and blades.

Authenticity is generally verified through clear hallmarks indicating the metal purity, makers mark, and assay office, alongside period-appropriate engraving styles and traditional hinged construction.

Such pieces can be displayed within glass-fronted cabinets, on silver display trays, or utilised as refined table settings during formal dining occasions to add historical texture to modern rooms.

Antique silver requires gentle cleaning with a specialised non-abrasive silver cloth or mild pH-neutral wash, avoiding harsh chemical dips that can strip the natural patina and delicate engraved details.
