We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Satsuma ware is a type of Japanese pottery originating from Satsuma Province in Kyushu, traditionally characterised by an ivory-coloured, crackle-glazed earthenware body decorated with polychrome enamels and gold gilt, reaching its height of artistic refinement during the Meiji period.

Authentic Satsuma items are constructed from local clay fired at low temperatures to produce a porous earthenware body, which is then coated with a transparent crackle glaze and meticulously hand-painted using mineral-based enamels and raised gold leaf highlights.

Genuine antique pieces feature a fine network of crackles throughout the glaze known as crizzle, hand-painted details with tactile enamel relief, and often bear painted or impressed artisan signatures and kiln marks on the base.

An antique Satsuma vase can be styled as a solitary focal point on a credenza, mantelpiece, or open bookshelf, allowing its intricate patterns and metallic accents to contrast against minimalist modern furnishings.

Antique ceramic vessels should be dusted gently with a dry, soft-bristled brush or microfiber cloth, avoiding water immersion, liquid cleaners, or abrasive agents to protect the delicate surface enamels and vulnerable gold leaf gilding.
