Superb Antique Gilt And Bronze Regency Poodle Dog Clock By Hessen Paris.
This absolutely superb example of a gilt bronze regency clock features a black patinated poodle dog cast in superb detail. The piece then sits on a wonderful gilt bronze and chequered base with the poodle itself having a gilt collar. The dog is then holding the gilt dial and movement housing from its mouth.
The dial is then set out in black Roman numerals with a ring of dashes to the outside marking the minutes. The dial then features two small shaped hands and a domed glass set i to the gilt bezel.
The movement is then wound from the front and accessed from the back. Unfortunately it is not currently working as the small fusee chain has become detached. The movement is then signed by the maker “Hessen Paris”.
Adré Hessen (1745-1805), a watchmaker who settled in Paris, France, in 1767 and who was very well-known and appreciated in his time.
