Monteith and bonnet glasses gained popularity during the Georgian era, initially used for rinsing wine glasses at the dining table or serving specific sweetmeats and desserts.

These pieces were typically crafted from lead glass using free-blown and mould-blown techniques, often featuring rib moulding and pontil marks on the base.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit characteristic traits such as surface wear, air bubbles, slight asymmetries from hand-crafting, and a rough snapped or polished pontil mark.

Antique glassware adds historical texture when displayed on open shelving, sideboards, or inside glass-fronted cabinets, contrasting nicely with modern minimalist surfaces.

Antique glass should be washed by hand using tepid water and mild detergent, avoiding sudden temperature changes and abrasive materials to protect the delicate surface.
