Huge Early 20th Century Advertising Clock By Smiths Of London

£5,250    $6,455    €6,263
Huge English Illuminated advertising clock by Smiths of London

“Time stands still for no one” as the saying goes.

A colossal example of an Illuminated advertising clock by Smiths of London. Aged well with a black painted steel case. This trade sign clock was originally double sided however one side of the clock face has been removed due to damage we feel, the working side is glass faced, and the reverse side has plastic text to the top and bottom sections. Fully working original mechanism in place that keeps perfect time, with switch to activate illumination. This monster of a clock would once have hung above a funeral directors store reminding us all, that we only have so much time. This item is very rare as these objects are becoming harder to find due to the listing of Victorian builds of trade in the UK.

Size in inches: H 48” x W 30” x D 15”

Origin: England

Date: Early 20th Century

Condition: Fair

NOTE: Skulls or dog are not for sale.

This item is in original condition and untouched in form (apart from the rewiring of the lighting) fitted to a 240v UK power source, worn and weathered surfaces including loss of paint and rusting in areas as you may expect. The glass face side has worn and flaked text as shown but this is firmly in place with a small crack to the base section which is also firm and not moving. One side of the clock is obviously missing that we feel is due to damage. This is an old object that has been outside all its life so please expect this in its appearance and condition. We have tried to show all areas of this item but it’s so big it’s hard to cover all areas as I’m sure you can appreciate.

We strongly suggest reviewing all the photos provided as part of this advert and propose questions where sections are unclear to avoid disappointment upon purchase.
