Enamelled glass boxes gained immense popularity in France during the 19th century, particularly within the Victorian and Art Nouveau periods, often utilised on dressing tables for storing small items like pins, rings, or pills.

These pieces typically feature mould-blown or pressed glass mounted with brass hinges and bezels, decorated with hand-applied enamel paint depicting floral or geometric motifs.

Authenticity is determined by examining the weight and hue of the glass, the hand-painted details of the enamel which show slight variations, and the patina and construction style of the metal mounts.

Placed upon a dressing table, bedside table, or open shelving, these small objects add a touch of historic colour, texture, and refined craftsmanship to contemporary spaces.

Clean gently with a soft, dry cloth to avoid damaging the delicate surface enamelling, and keep out of direct, prolonged sunlight to prevent colour fading of both the glass and enamel.
