A Georgian silver caddy spoon is a small, specialized scoop manufactured during the Georgian period, specifically designed for measuring loose tea leaves from a caddy into a teapot.

These spoons were typically fashioned from sterling silver using techniques such as die-stamping, hand-engraving, puncturing, and chasing to create intricate decorative patterns.

Authentic pieces are identified by clear hallmarks stamped on the metal, including the makers mark, the town mark, the standard mark, and a date letter corresponding to the active period of silversmiths like Cocks & Bettridge.

These items can be displayed within glass-fronted cabinets, mounted in shallow shadow boxes, or styled alongside other silverware on a sideboard to add historical texture to a room.

Antique silver should be cleaned sparingly using a specialized non-abrasive silver cloth to preserve the patina, avoiding harsh liquid dips that can strip historical oxidisation from engraved details.
