FAQs

Early 19th-century decanters were crafted for storing and serving wine and spirits at the dining table, often featuring heavy lead glass and distinctive cut or gilded motifs reflecting the neoclassical tastes of the Georgian era.

These vessels were typically mouth-blown from lead crystal or flint glass, shaped using pontil marks on the base, and hand-decorated with gilt enamelling or hand-cut geometric patterns.

Authentic pieces exhibit rough pontil marks on the base, minor bubbles or impurities within the hand-blown glass, matching numbered stoppers, and genuine wear to any external gilding or decoration.

They can be displayed on a sideboard, bar cart, or open shelving to catch the light, adding a touch of historical elegance and reflecting refined craftsmanship in contemporary spaces.

Clean them gently using warm water and mild detergent with a soft bottle brush, avoiding harsh chemicals or extreme temperature changes, and leave the stoppers out until completely dry to prevent moisture retention.
