A roemer is a traditional Germanic drinking vessel characterised by a large bowl, a cylindrical stem applied with prunts, and a conical foot formed by coiling hot glass. Originating in the Rhineland during the 15th and 16th centuries, the form remained popular throughout Europe into the 19th century, frequently produced in forest green glass.

Traditional roemers were typically crafted from potash-lime forest glass or lead glass, imparting a characteristic green hue due to iron impurities in the sand. The distinctive raspberry prunts on the stem were applied by hand as separate blobs of molten glass and then impressed with a tool to create texture.

Authentic period pieces exhibit characteristics such as a pontil mark on the underside of the base, minor surface wear or scratches consistent with age, and slight bubbles or striations within the glass body resulting from historical manufacturing methods.

An antique roemer can be displayed on a bookshelf, sideboard, or mantelpiece where natural light can pass through the green glass, creating vibrant colour accents. It pairs effectively with both minimalist contemporary shelving and traditional wooden cabinetry.

Antique glass should be washed strictly by hand using lukewarm water and a mild detergent, avoiding sudden temperature changes that could cause thermal shock. It should be dried carefully with a soft lint-free cloth and kept away from direct, prolonged sunlight to prevent surface degradation.
