Description

A good pair of Japanese hard paste porcelain vases in the Imari palette circa 1900. The vases have typical hand painted blue Imari and raised panels with dogs of fo in relief decorated in the red ironstone. These are in perfect condition with no damage or restoration.

The vases measure 24 cms high by 12 cms in diameter.

UK insured packing and delivery is £20

Imari porcelain is a type of Japanese export porcelain produced in the town of Arita, in the former Hizen Province, and exported from the port of Imari. It gained prominence during the Edo period and became highly sought after in Europe for its distinctive colour palette.

Imari pieces are crafted from fine kaolin clay, fired at high temperatures, and hand-painted underglaze in cobalt blue, followed by overglaze enamel painting in iron red, gold, and sometimes other secondary colours.

Authentic pieces often exhibit minor kiln imperfections, hand-painted brushwork with depth and variation, aged crazing in the glaze, and traditional underglaze blue combined with iron red overglaze accents.

These decorative vessels can be displayed as statement pieces on a console table, mantelpiece, or within a glass-front cabinet, adding historical texture and rich colour to both traditional and modern spaces.
