Victorian Scottish Silver Garter Belt Agate Brooch C1860

Technical Description
 
A superb 19th century Scottish silver and agate brooch in the form of a Heraldic garter belt with a buckle. The silver is mounted with a handmade scrolling c-clasp with a slightly extended pin and tube hinge, there is also an intact hanging loop. The silver is ornately engraved and set with eight different stones including a salmon banded agate, yellow banded agate, red, yellow and green moss agates, blue lace agate and mottled jasper.
 
 
The stones are expertly set and remain flush with the setting. Each of these agates comes from a different part of Scotland.
 
Date & Origin
 
Scotland or England, c1860. Period of Victoria.
 
Condition
 
Excellent, age-related wear as shown. Pin to rear in full working order. Silver unmarked which is quite normal for Scottish Jewellery of this type.
