Scottish Antique Silver, Agate and Enamel “Mary” Brooch, C.1890

Description

An exceptionally rare Scottish antique silver “Mary” or Luckenbooth brooch. Probably made in Edinburgh around 1890. It has an unusual mix of agates and enamels in a silver frame. It is called a “Mary” brooch after Mary Queen of Scots who had one made as a gift. There are an enameled thistle and a fleu de leys signifying her marriage to the French Dauphin, the heir apparent to the French throne. Overall the brooch and especially the enamels are in good condition with only scratches and wear commensurate with it’s age. A real collectors item.

Weight; 22 grams approximately.
