English Fusee Drop Dial In A Walnut Case By Thomas Sly Of Salisbury. circa 1870.

A pale walnut cased, fusee drop-dial wall timepiece.
 
The 8 day duration, 4 pillar, gut fusee movement with Anchor Recoil escapement and long pendulum with a substantial brass-cased lenticular pendulum bob.
 
Behind a 12'' diameter, flat painted iron dial with outer divided minute track and inner, Roman hour numerals. The centre bears the maker''s signature of ''THO(MA)S SLY. SALISBURY''. Also having spade shaped blued steel hands and a hinged and glazed bezel.
 
Contained in a faded walnut veneered case of good grain. The dial surround being flat and over the drop box front that is inlaid with brass stringing and roundels. It also has a glazed pendulum aperture with cast brass quarter framing. This is flanked with carved scrolled ears and the curved bottom has a locking and cockbeaded regulation door. There is also a side access door.
