A classic silk suspension ''pendule portative'' as they are known in France,or mantel clock by Cleret of Paris, slightly smaller than average, standing only 19cm to the top of the case. Made from oak, rosewood and with boxwood inlays to border the front and side panels, a finely carved ripple edge moulding surrounding the dial, and is surmounted by an ornate cast brass carrying handle. The dial itself is enamel and is in great condition, signed ''Cleret ą Paris'', with Roman numerals and protective brass winding hole collets, and a pair of fine ''quatrefoil'' hands. To the top of the clock there is a small wooden knob which is used to slide the glass panel upwards and out of the way for winding and adjusting, and there is also a small glass aperature to the top panel for viewing the movement.
