Delft Miniature Longcase Clock

19th century
Description

A charming miniature longcase clock with a Delft pottery case. The case is beautifully modelled in miniature as a longcase clock and decorated in typical Delft style in blue and white. The central section of the clock has a charming eighteenth century style scene with figures. There is copious floral decoration and a typical Dutch scene to the hood of the clock. The case is in excellent condition with no damage at all. The clock movement is all there but not working, it needs servicing. The dial and hands are all there but there is some chipping to the dial winding hole. A charming and unusual piece of Delft with a great decorative impact. C.1880.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Delftware miniature longcase clock is a decorative tabletop timepiece crafted from tin-glazed earthenware, designed in the visual form of a traditional tall grandfather clock and decorated in blue and white pigments.

These clocks typically consist of a molded earthenware ceramic body treated with a tin-glaze enamel, combined with a brass-cased mechanical or battery clock insert and dial face.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-painted cobalt blue decoration under glaze, subtle glaze crazing, potter or painter marks painted on the unglazed base, and signs of age on the metal clock bezel.

Place the clock as a focal piece on a fireplace mantel, styled alongside curated blue and white ceramics or stacked books to add height and historic interest.

Dust the ceramic body gently with a dry microfiber cloth and avoid immersion in water to protect the internal clock movement and brass elements from corrosion.
