Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This pair of nineteenth century Regency serving cupboards stands ready for practical use in a formal dining room, reception hallway, or spacious living space. Constructed from mahogany with striking dark brown flame mahogany veneers, the matched pair displays rich natural wood grain patterns across the twin panelled doors. Each piece incorporates a tiered upper gallery shelf fitted with visible brass hinges that allow the shelf to fold. Simple rectangular moulding frames each door panel, and the base rests upon short, straight block feet. The dark timber finish enhances the warm, polished appearance of the wood surfaces. Measuring 120 cm high, 140 cm wide, and 66 cm deep, these low cupboards offer substantial surface area and enclosed storage beneath the open upper shelving. Positioned against a main dining room wall, the pair provides convenient surface space for serving dishes, drinks, or decorative displays during gatherings. The enclosed lower cabinets hide tableware, linens, or serving accessories out of sight, while the stepped upper tiers hold small serving items, glassware, or decorative accents. Alternatively, placing the two matching units together along an expansive hallway or living area wall creates a unified storage arrangement that echoes traditional Regency interior design schemes. The combination of closed cabinet storage and open tiered shelving accommodates daily organisation needs in a domestic setting.

FAQs

Serving cupboards, also known as servers or buffets, were historically designed for dining rooms to assist with food presentation and store linens, cutlery, and tableware inside lower enclosed compartments.

These pieces were typically crafted using dense hardwoods such as mahogany or oak, often decorated with book-matched flame mahogany veneers, hand-cut dovetail joints, and cast brass hinges or escutcheons.

Authentic period pieces show evidence of hand-planed timber on structural backs, natural shrinkage gaps along wood joins, hand-cut joinery inside the framework, and original brass fittings with faint oxidisation.

Placing a matching pair symmetrically on either side of a fireplace or along an expansive dining room wall creates structural balance while providing substantial concealed storage for contemporary entertaining.

Dust surfaces regularly using a soft, dry lint-free cloth and apply a thin coat of natural beeswax polish annually to protect the veneer without causing finish build-up.
