Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

China Trade camphor wood trunks were manufactured in Canton and other Chinese port cities during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries specifically for Western merchants and naval officers. They were constructed as resilient travel luggage to transport textiles, tea, and personal effects on long sea voyages.

These trunks were constructed using solid camphor timber, chosen because its aromatic natural oils repel insects. The exteriors were frequently wrapped in hide or leather and reinforced with brass corner mounts, brass studs, and flush side handles.

Authentic period examples feature hand-cut joinery, hand-hammered brass studwork, and flush-fitting brass hardware engineered to save space aboard ships. The distinct, lingering scent of camphor wood inside the interior remains a reliable indicator of age and origin.

A trunk of this proportion functions well as an accent coffee table, an end-of-bed storage container, or a decorative side table. Positioned in a living room or study, it provides historical texture alongside functional concealed storage.

Preserve the leather and timber by positioning the trunk away from direct heat sources and excessive moisture. Clean the leather with a neutral leather balm and wipe the brass fittings gently with a soft cloth to maintain the existing patina.
