This footed decorative bowl dates from the 1880s period in the Japonisme style. Formed from amber-tinted crystal glass, the piece stands 8.5 cm high, 17 cm wide, and 17 cm deep. The body has six lobed sections and rests on a circular footed base with a scalloped rim. The exterior features hand-enamelled Japanese-inspired floral motifs, including a blue lozenge panel and grey circular panels alongside red flowers and green leaves. There is a chip on the rim near the blue panel, a tiny chip on the edge of the foot, scuffs inside the bowl, and some enamel losses. The item works well as a decorative display piece on a sideboard top in a dining room or living room, bringing 19th-century French aesthetic style into a modern home interior. The amber hue and detailed hand-painted enamel elements provide a focal point on polished wooden furniture or glass shelving.

Japonisme glass emerged in Europe during the late 19th century following the reopening of trade with Japan. Designers such as Francois-Eugene Rousseau incorporated traditional Japanese motifsincluding fauna, flora, and asymmetryinto high-end French crystal and glass manufacture.

Pieces from this period were typically produced using heavy lead crystal or tinted glass, shaped by blowing or cutting. Decorative detailing was executed by hand using low-fire vitrifiable enamels and gilt accents fused onto the glass surface in a kiln.

Authentic period examples demonstrate high-density lead crystal, crisp cut-glass edges, and raised enamel decoration with slight physical texture. Works produced by or for major French makers often display acid-etched marks, signatures, or documented mold shapes corresponding to late 19th-century catalogues.

An antique art glass bowl serves as a focal point when positioned on a minimalist sideboard or lit shelving unit where natural or directional light can pass through the tinted crystal, highlighting the detailed enamel work.

Clean gently using lukewarm water and mild, non-abrasive soap applied with a soft cloth. Avoid submerging in hot water, using harsh chemical cleaners, or cleaning in dishwashers, as these methods can degrade gilded and enamelled surface layers over time.
