FAQs

The Arts and Crafts movement emerged in the late 19th century as a reaction against industrial manufacturing, prioritising traditional craftsmanship, hand-carved natural motifs, and functional simplicity.

Cabinet makers predominantly utilised solid hardwoods such as walnut, oak, and ash, often complemented by hand-forged brass or copper hardware and traditional joinery techniques.

Authenticity can be determined by inspecting the hand-carved details, traditional joint construction such as dovetailing, tool marks on the timber, and period-appropriate hardware like drop-ring brass handles.

Such pieces can be utilised as accent furniture in living rooms or studies, providing textural contrast against minimalist modern decor through their rich wood grain and intricate carvings.

Preservation requires regular dusting with a soft dry cloth and occasional application of high-quality beeswax to nourish the timber, avoiding direct sunlight and excessive moisture.
