Nineteenth-century Bohemian cased glass typically features multiple fused layers of contrasting glass colours, often achieved by combining an outer layer of coloured glass with an inner layer of white or clear glass, allowing for intricate surface carving or engraving.

Craftsmen utilised techniques such as hand-painting with mineral enamels, glass casing, acid-etching, and the application of raised gold leaf gilding to create detailed botanical and figurative motifs.

Authentication relies on examining the weight, the quality of the cased layers, hand-finished pontil marks on the base, and the characteristic style of hand-applied enamelling and gilding typical of the late nineteenth century.

Antique glass vases can be displayed as solo sculptural objects on open shelving, sideboards, or mantels where natural light can accentuate the colour saturation and layered glass depth.

Cleaning requires gentle dusting with a soft, dry cloth. Immersion in water or the use of chemical cleaning agents must be avoided to protect fragile surface enamels and gold gilding.
