Robert Belcher Antiques has dated this Neoclassical Opaline Glass Vase to the 1880s.
The vase is made from opaque white glass separated with pale blue overlaid panels with hand painted Greek key boarders. The central section is most striking and bears a classical Grecian soldier in full uniform with spear and shield riding an elaborate chariot which is being drawn by two powerful horses. This printed and hand gilded decoration is very detailed and the gilt elements catch the light and glisten beautifully. The reverse of the vase is plain apart from a small hand painted classical motif. This hand blown vase is finished on the underside with a snapped off pontil from its manufacture.
