Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Georgian mahogany cupboard stands on four square straight legs and displays flame mahogany panels set within two doors above a single drawer. Polished brass swan-neck handles sit on the drawer front alongside a central keyhole escutcheon, while a matching keyhole ring pull adorns the right-hand door. The timber exhibits a warm brown colour with varied grain figuring and gentle surface wear consistent with age, complemented by neat edge mouldings around the cabinet and drawer sections. Measuring 74 cm high, 64 cm wide, and 47 cm deep, the piece offers compact proportions suitable for various interior settings. It fits well in a living room, hallway, or bedroom as a bedside table or decorative storage cabinet, providing convenient surface space on top and enclosed storage within the cupboard and lower drawer for everyday household items.

FAQs

Georgian cupboards, originating from 18th-century Britain, are characterised by symmetrical proportions, clean lines, and restrained architectural detailing.

Craftsmen primarily utilised dense Cuban mahogany and later West Indian mahogany, combined with brass hardware, oak or pine secondary woods, and hand-cut dovetail joints.

Authentic pieces feature signs of hand-planing, original oak or pine drawer linings, period-appropriate hand-cut dovetails, and genuine patination on both wood and brass handles.

A Georgian cupboard functions as a bedside table, a compact hallway storage console, or an occasional side cabinet alongside contemporary art and neutral soft furnishings.

Maintain mahogany furniture by dusting with a soft cloth, applying high-quality beeswax once or twice a year, and keeping it away from direct sunlight and radiators.
