George III period silver encompasses items produced during the reign of King George III from 1760 to 1820, characterised by classical proportions, refined craftsmanship, and adherence to strict London assay office standards.

These items were typically forged from sterling silver, meeting the 925 standard, and shaped by hand hammering and silversmithing techniques, often finished with hand engraving and punch hallmarks.

Authenticity is verified by examining crisp town marks, date letters corresponding to specific assay years, makers marks, and the lion passant denoting sterling quality, alongside patination consistent with age.

Antique silver items are frequently displayed within glass-fronted cabinets, mounted in shadow boxes, or styled on dining surfaces to introduce historic texture and metallic contrast to a room.

Preservation requires storing items in tarnish-resistant cloth, avoiding harsh abrasive dips, and cleaning infrequently with specialised silver polishes to maintain the integrity of the original metal and hallmarks.
