Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Dutch silver craftsmanship reached international renown during the 17th and 18th centuries, famous for intricate metalwork and detailed figurative finials. Spoons featuring maritime motifs, such as sailing ships, were frequently crafted to commemorate voyages, family occasions, or serve as decorative presentation gifts.

These pieces were typically cast or hand-hammered from solid silver, with purity grades usually ranging from .833 grade to sterling quality. Detailed components like the stem and finial were often cast separately and soldered onto the silver bowl.

Authentic Dutch silver pieces generally bear specific hallmark stamps, including purity marks like the lion passant or sword mark, town marks, and makers initials. Look for hand-finished casting details, subtle surface wear on high points, and historic hallmarks located near the bowl or stem.

Incorporate decorative silver spoons into dining room displays by placing them on a tray or inside a glass cabinet. They can also serve as elegant accents on a dining sideboard, showcased alongside silver dishes, crystal glassware, or framed artwork.

Store silver items in tarnish-resistant cloth bags or lined cases to prevent oxidisation caused by air exposure. Clean periodically using a soft cloth and a specialised silver polish, avoiding abrasive compounds that could erase fine cast details.
