Regency furniture, spanning roughly from 1811 to 1830, is characterised by classical proportions, clean architectural lines, and heavily figured wood veneers such as mahogany, often drawing inspiration from Greco-Roman designs.

Master cabinet makers primarily utilized solid mahogany and imported tropical hardwoods, featuring hand-cut dovetail joints in drawer construction, pegged mortise and tenon joints, and secondary softwoods like oak or pine for internal framing.

Authenticity is determined by examining hand-cut dovetails, asymmetrical tool marks from hand planes, shrinkage cracks in timber panels, period-appropriate brass or wooden hardware, and overall patination consistent with age and use.

Pairing heavy traditional case pieces with neutral, minimalist walls and contemporary lighting creates a balanced focal point that highlights the rich grain and craftsmanship of the antique without overwhelming the room.

Maintain antique wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heating vents to prevent splitting, dusting regularly with a dry lint-free cloth, and periodically applying microcrystalline wax to nourish the finish.
